·                                                                                                                                                                            Liverpool Welsh Choral Christmas Concert

·                                                                                                                                                                            We are arranging a full day trip to the World of Glass in St. Helens  on Tuesday 26th February 2019

The price will not exceed £14.50 and will include the coach trip from/to Bromborough and a fully guided tour of the complete gallery.  The tour includes the Pilkington Crystal and St. Helens Heritage collections, a special effects film show, a glass blowing demonstration and a visit to the Cone Building for an experience of what life was like in a Victorian glass factory. Barbara Trevor will be opening a list of names today when our guest speaker has finished. Numbers may be limited by the size of the coach available, so we will be operating on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Times and final price will be included in the January Newsletter and payments taken then or the February Monthly Meeting.

·                                                                                                                                                                            At the October Committee Meeting it was decided that the annual membership fee for 2019 would remain at £15.00. The fee is payable at the January 2019 meeting. Members are reminded that they have an ex gratia

period of 2 months for payment. After that period has elapsed, membership will cease and personal data will be removed from our system. There will be exceptions and we will review each case on individual merits.

·                                                                                                                                                                            However, if you are already a member of another U3A and have paid full membership fees, including the Capitation Fee to that U3A, then the fee for full membership Bromborough U3A will be £11.50.

·                                                                                                                                                                            If you just wish to join an Interest Group in Bromborough U3A then there will be no charge other than any costs directly associated with that Group – share of hall charges, teas/coffees etc.  If a Group becomes full, a visitor must not have priority over one of our Members who wishes to join that Group, unless the visitor takes up the option of full membership of Bromborough U3A.

·                                                                                                                                                                            To help us meet our obligations under GDPR, we have introduced a new Membership Application Form.

A supply of these forms will be available at today’s meeting and all members are requested to complete

the form and return it with their membership fee in January.

At the January Meeting there will be four queues divided into alphabetical groups.

It would be much appreciated if your form is filled in and payment is by cheque made out to: Bromborough U3A

·                                                                                                                                                                            Group Leaders   If any members of your group do not come to the Monthly Meetings, please take a form for them and if necessary, bring their signed form and cheque along in January.

·                                                                                                                                                                            We will discontinue the single-use plastic cups when the existing supply is exhausted. It was suggested that members brought their own cups but we can envisage a number of problems with that idea so it has been cancelled.  We have found a range of paper cups which are recyclable and biodegradable. These fit into our existing holders. An initial small supply has been ordered and will be available for the January meeting.

·                                                                                                                                                                            There has been an encouraging response towards this new Interest Group. A number of members attended an inaugural meeting in the Civic Centre with a positive discussion on how the Group should progress. Several approaches were considered and whilst it was felt that we should touch upon the early history of the industry including the silent movie era, we should then concentrate on some of the personalities of the film industry and the films they have been, or are, associated with.

We still have to arrange the frequency of the meetings, days of the week, and location! It is hoped that we will have our first proper meeting towards the end of January.

This is not a Closed Group so, if you are interested, please see Jim Gould for further information.
