 FEBRUARY  MEETING

·         Today’s talk will be given by Matt Thomas who is a wildlife photographer. His talk is entitled ‘From the Muddy Banks of the Dee’.

 

MARCH  MEETING

·                                                                                                                                                                            Monday 4th March and our speaker will be Neil Smith. His talk is entitled ‘Have Guitar, will

Travel’. A story of his music and his adventures.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

 LUNCH ON BOARD THE  ‘ L’eau-t Cuisine’  CRUISEBOAT FROM THE MILL HOTEL                                                     

We have arranged to have lunch on board the Lunch Cruiser from the Mill Hotel in Chester on               Monday 22nd April  (Easter Monday).   The price is £23 per person for a four-course meal and coffee, which will be served to us on board by their excellent waiters and waitresses. There is a bar on board also.   The Mill Hotel are holding this booking for us until this evening, but we have to let them have numbers today.  Please see Sheila Fitchet  (334 6413)  if you wish to book. The deposit (non-refundable) is £10 per person, but if you wish to go,  it is very important to get your name on the list, even if you do not have enough money with you today. The maximum number of places on the Lunch Cruiser is 50 and the minimum number to secure it exclusively for Bromborough U3A members is 40.

BROMBOROUGH LIBRARY

·                                                                                                                                                                            On Friday 15th February at 10.30am and Friday 15th March at 10.30am, there will be a Book Sale and Coffee Morning. Proceeds to save the Library.

HESWALL

·                                                                                                                                                                            At the Church of the Good Shepherd, next to Heswall Bus Station – The Singing Café  from 10.30am to 12 noon. Popular and Classic Music.

 

WORLD of GLASS VISIT – Tuesday 26th February

·                                                                                                                                                                            Final payments are due today – please see Anne O’Connor at the break. The coach will depart Bromborough from outside the front of the Civic Centre at 10am.

·                                                                                                                                                                            WALKING GROUP -  Contact Dawn Coppell (334 0350)                                                                                                                                                                                The U3A walk on Monday 18th February will be led by Dawn Coppell and is the Liverpool Riverfront to Otterspool.  The train from Bromborough at 10.03am to James Street or meet at James Street Station at approx.. 10.30am.  It is about 5 miles. Take a packed lunch or buy at the café at Otterspool. Then take the train from Aigburth back to James Street.

·         SHORT WALKS 

These are usually the first and third Thursday of every month. Walks are about one and a half miles long and are required to finish at or near a café.

Held at Newton Rigg College, Penrith. Tuesday 27th   to  Friday 30th  August, 2019

There are 9 courses:-

1. Bards, Bede and Boneless Ivor: Britain between the Romans and the Vikings.*  Tutor Maggy Simms.

2. Art Challenges.  Theme Summer.  Tutor Jacqueline Cartwright.

3. Art Appreciation: 20 Great Artists from the North West and Lake District*.  Tutor Gill Baynes.

4. Etymology: The Alphabet and the Meanings and Forms of Everyday English Words.  Tutor Mario           Molinari.

5. Geology: When Continents Collide i.e. Cumbria and the British Isles*.  Tutor Christine Arkwright.

6. History: Mussolini and Hitler, a Comparison  Tutor Edward Towne.

7. Music Appreciation: Around the World with Classical Music.  Tutor Jack Wood

8. Philosophy: Brothers in Arms, i.e. Henry James, Novelist and his brother William, Philosopher and   Psychologist.  Tutor Meg Shaw.

9. Ukelele: A workshop for Beginners.  Tutor: Debra Smith

*£10 supplement for field trip.

Numbers 2, 8 and 9 are likely to be very popular and, if interested, you need to apply very soon and pay £50 deposit.  The total cost with full board and evening entertainment is £270, a bargain!

Diana is not organising a minibus from Bromborough this year; but, hopefully, someone else will do so.  Penrith is, however, on the West Coast train line service to Scotland.  The college is a 10 minute taxi ride from the station.
