The Local History Group
We have learned a great deal about the history of our locality
and parties have visited buildings of architectural, religious and industrial importance
across the years.
When in 2005, we were given a guided tour of the Mostyn House School and its fascinating Chapel
we little realised that the school might be closing within a year or so.
The School, which opened in 1863, was run by the Grenfell family throughout its life.
One famous Grenfell son was Wilfred, who went on to become famous
and was Knighted
for his role as a medical missionary in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Much of Birkenhead Park has been refurbished.
Did you know this was the model on which Central Park NY was based?.
